Westerly – When Julio Iacoi died of a heart attack, 41-year old Margaret “Polly” Iacoi was left to raise four sons between the ages of 4 and 15.
With little money and a new mortgage, she persevered, creating a happy home for her children.
When Mrs. Iacoi died of cancer in 1990, her sons established The Margaret E. Iacoi Memorial Foundation for Widowed Mothers, awarding an annual gift to a woman in a situation similar to that of their mother. The seventh such award will be bestowed on Jan. 29, their mother’s birthday.
